Air Fryer Review and The Best Chicken Wings!

My son got an Air Fryer for Christmas. I haven’t had any experience with this particular gadget. Curiosity got the best of me, so Hubble and I went over to my son’s house yesterday to try it out. It was pretty amazing!

The model we tried was a NuWave Versatile Brio Air Fryer with One-Touch Digital Controls. NuWave Air Fryer

Pros

The unit was compact and sits easily on a table or counter. Control buttons were right on the front and easy to understand. The best feature, I think, is the clean up. Cleaning was a breeze. Only two things to clean, the basket the food sits in and the container it fits in. This caught all the drippings. It was very easy to use. Of course, in day to day use,  you’d need to clean it a little deeper, the outside and the interior of the base, but for quick clean up, this rocks!

For our testing, we decided to make chicken wings and Fried Pickles.

The wings cooked in about 20 min total and were crispy and juicy. The meat fell off the bone and they were cooked to perfection. We had about 3 pounds of wings and had to cook them in 2 batches. We wished we had 2 more pounds after we added the wings to the marinade, they were yummy!

We also tried fried pickles.

No Recipe Recipe:

Dry sliced pickles, about 1/4″, on sheets of paper towels, coat them in beaten egg with a little water, and dredge them in seasoned bread crumbs. We sprayed them with cooking spray. They cooked in 8 min, turning once half way through. They came out perfectly crispy. We served them with spicy ranch dressing. They didn’t last!Fried Pickles

Cons

The only draw back to the Air Fryer I found was that it doesn’t hold a lot of food. It’s a great size for 2 people, but if you’re cooking for a crowd, you’d have to do it in batches, and it takes a little time. You could hold the food in a warm oven, but it might compromise the quality of the finished product. Making french fries or Tater Tots ahead probably wouldn’t be that good.

We made my “Spicy Lemon Chicken Wings“, which is my most requested recipe in my family. This is a grill recipe and I usually make it all summer long. Every time I have a barbecue or am invited to one, I am asked to bring these. This is the best chicken wing recipe, it is so good! Grilling the wings gives the best flavor for this recipe because the char flavor is part of the profile, but these came out delicious cooked in the air fryer.

Spicy Lemon Wings

Always trying to adapt a recipe, we went from grilled to air fried, thus, Air Fried Spicy Lemon Chicken Wings were born.

This is the quintessential herb and spice recipe and deserves first dibs in any flavor adventure. Perfect to make for your Super Bowl Party, or to bring to a barbecue. Wings keep well in a 225 F oven. Don’t put them in the marinade until you are ready to serve them.

I  adopted this  recipe from a good friend years ago at a Fourth of July barbecue. It is delicious, and I can’t go anywhere without it being requested! I feel so lucky to have experienced it then, and I want to share it with you.

air fryerThis air fryer was so much fun to try. It left me with as whole lot of ideas. I’m thinking “fried” chicken cordon bleu, fried cauliflower wings, and more! I’ll keep updating as we try new recipes.
