Panch Phoran Spice Blend

This is a Bengali spice blend. The spices are a little bit exotic, but you can find them here if your store doesn’t carry them.

Panch Phoran Spice Blend

  • 2 tbsp Whole Fenugreek
  • 2 tbsp Whole Mustard Seed
  • 2 tbsp Whole Fennel Seed
  • 2 tbsp Whole Cumin Seed
  • 2 tbsp Whole Nigella Seed see note


  • Mix all spices together in a bowl. Store in a cool, dark place in a tightly lidded jar for up to 6 months if it lasts that long!


Nigella, also known as black onion seed, or Kalongi is a really good spice to have on hand. Use it to sprinkle on meats before grilling to give them an exotic taste.
You can add this mixture to a spice blender and keep some ground to add awesome flavor to curries and soups.
